Playmakers' Open New Comedy January18: SILVER LINING
IF EVERY CLOUD HAS A SILVER LINING, THE WOMEN OF GRAVESEND WILL FIND IT

To parody a holiday song, "Oh the weather in the play is frightful, but in your seats, well it's delightful..." It will be warm in the theatre and the coffee will be hot when "Silver Lining" opens on Friday, January 18, 2019.
If that isn't enough to keep the January & February chills away, the play written by Sandi Toksvig, co-presenter of The Great British Baking Show (US PBS) will keep you warm with its wit, the spunk and courage of its odd-ball characters and some side-splitting one-liners. It continues on January 20, 22, 25, 27, 29, February 1 and 2, 2019 at The Playmakers Theatre, 121 W. 3rd Street, Grove, OK.
Since the playwright for Silver Lining, Sandi Toksvig, is a host on the Great British Baking Show, there will b a special event on Opening night to kick off a wonderful comedy: A "Bake Off" with entries from a bakers' dozen of community women's groups. Two prizes will be awarded: a judges' prize and an audience choice prize. Tasting for the latter begins at 6:30 for those reserving for the Opening Night performance.
Though not a mystery, it does take place on a dark and stormy night in the upper day room of the Silver Retirement Home. Five elderly, bored women trade stories of their remarkable (or sometimes unremarkable) lives. The retirement home is in a town called Gravesend, an irony not lost on its residents, especially since, except for the seemingly forgotten quintet, the rest of the home has been evacuated due to an impending flood.
With storm waters rising like Noah's, and the weather seemingly preventing any rescue team from performing its responsibilities, the ladies are faced with the sudden realization that in order to survive they are going to have to do what they have done for their entire lives - save themselves! They aren't sure that they, like Noah, are getting any instructions from God except through their own brains, determination and moxie.
They do their best to laugh off their predicament and you will be laughing along with them. Get ready to grow very fond of these quirky residents: Maureen (Karon Wheat), Gloria (Susan Bass), sisters May (Pam Leptich) and June (Sara Kaufman), and a vacant woman whose dementia has made her forget her real name (played by Linda DuBois).
When a young man, Jed, (Justus Fletcher) appears, they soon realize that he is there for more mischievous reasons. Finally, a clueless temp, Hope, (Vicki King) sent by a care agency, appears to be their only... well... hope. When all seems lost and clearly no other help is coming, they stage a "great escape" without the motorbikes and the Germans. The escape gives them a common goal and a purpose in life, plus something they all secretly hanker afte
