"Every Christmas Story You've Ever Heard (and Then Some)"

A Hilarious Whirlwind of a Christmas Show at The Playmakers

Are you tired of the same Christmas stories in theatres and on TV year after year? Would you be glad if Tiny Tim would just get on with stuffing the turkey, or Bedford Falls became an island paradise where is was warm?
If you don’t want to admit such thoughts, or even if you can still get teary-eyed at all the myriad secular seasonal stories, you can join in the laughter by watching the beloved holiday classics put through a blender and mashed up in “Every Christmas Story Ever Told (And Then Some!),” by Michael Carleton, James Fitzgerald, and John K. Alvarez.
“We are opening this zany production in an unusual way,” says Suzanne Boles, Artistic Executive of The Playmakers, “with a matinee for families on Saturday, November 25 at 1:30. In this case, “families” include children, ages 5-12, who get a reduced ticket price ($6.50 instead of $8) when accompanied by at least one adult. There will be a musical bingo game at this matinee intermission for the young and young at heart. Of course, older youth and adults will enjoy this madcap romp through holiday stories, Christmas traditions from around the world, seasonal icons from ancient times, topical pop-culture and every carol every sung. Families are encouraged to attend any other performance at regular prices if they cannot make it to the opening performance.
"I laughed so much while just reading the play that I know seeing it performed will be even that much better,” said Susan Countryman, a regular audience member at The Playmakers’ productions.
This huge amount of zany material is spoofed with wild intensity in a short period of time by only three actors: Ashley Davidson, Dave Simpson and his twin brother, Don Simpson. Ashley Davidson also directs. The backstage crew will be as busy as the onstage actors. They are Phoenix Smith, Tony Watkins and Leigh Thomas. Rob Bane moves to sound operation for this production and Linda Fracek will run the lights.
Performances continue on Fridays: Dec 1 & 8 at 7:30 pm; Tuesdays: Nov 28 and Dec 5 at 7:30 pm; and Sunday Matinees: Nov. 26 and Dec. 10 at 2:00 pm. Doors open 30 minutes before curtain times.
There will be some special pecan treats and desserts at each performance that you can eat at intermission, or buy to take home with you for the holidays. Some of them will be great stocking stuffers.
The Playmakers’ theatre is at 121 W. 3rd St. in Grove, OK. There are no paper tickets at The Playmakers. Just call (918) 786-8950 and leave a message for the box office volunteer who will confirm your reservation within 24 hours, email groveplaymakers@yahoo.com or reserve online at www.groveplaymakers.com.
Entry prices are $15 for adults and $8 for students. Group prices are available as are discounted ‘pay what you can’ tickets. The Playmakers accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.
The minimum age guideline for this production is Kindergarten and above and is based on the appropriateness of the play for that age level and the capability of the student to understand the content of the production. Since this is a strong guideline, not a rule, please talk with the box office volunteer when you make reservations about bringing younger students. (Children under 5 are not admitted to Playmaker productions unless the play is specifically intended for that age group.)
