Fishing on Grand has really heated up the past few weeks. The majority of the fish are shallow. Many can be seen on beds.

Crappie have been shallow for a couple months around Monkey Island. During the past weeks they have also became active in the shallows down lake.

Road Runners with a Bobby Garland Swimming Baby Shad have been working best on the bank. A 1/32 ounce jig head with the same plastic are producing when shooting shallow docks. Electric Chicken and Cajun Cricket seem to be the best colors.

Bass are on beds. I am using a 1/4 ounce tungsten weight, a Gamakatsu Heavy Work NSB hook and Reaction Innovations Sweet beaver in Green Pumpkin for sight fishing. Don't be afraid to get physical with a fish that is locked on a bed. Make them mad. My rod choice for this presentation is a 13 Fishing 7 foot 1 inch eavy rod, Abu Garcia Revos SX 7.1:1 reel, 30 pound Spider Wire Stealth main line and a 15-20 pound fluorocarbon leader.

As for more stained water, I am flipping the same set up but also using a 1/4 ounce War Eagle Skaky Head with a green pumpkin trick worm to cover water between pieces of cover. A 13 Fishing 7 foot 1 inch medium heavy spinning outfit anf Abu Orra S does the work here with 15 pound spider wire main line and an 8-12 pound leader depending on water clarity.

Spring fishing can be the most fun to be had all year. Yet, catching fish off beds comes with a responsibility. Return these fish to the water immediately. Bluegill are close by and are little egg thieves. Respect Grand Lake's resource so we have many more to catch in the future!
