Grand Lake Ok offers a variety of family events including tribal happenings. September offers a variety of Native American cultural events including the Eastern Shawnee Tribal Powwow. This family event will be held on September 18th through the 20th and opens the doors of opportunity to learn about this grand festival.
The people of the Shawnee Tribe are often known historically as the Eastern Woodlands Indians. They are known traditionally as wanderers, but have gained great pride in the continuance of their heritage. During the festival of celebration, the tribe will come together and celebrate through a beautiful display of various dances and provide a cultural view to those who attend.
Visitors who attend the festival will have opportunity to see dances in different categories, sample foods, hear storytelling, and see American Indian art and craft first hand. This family fun event is a wonderful way to spend time learning.
Admission is free to this event which takes place at 12615 South 705 Road in Wyandotte, Oklahoma. Camping during this event is also no charge. For more information on this Grand Lake Ok event, please call 918-666-7710.
