Keeping Children Safe in the Sun During Grand Lake Ok Outings

Grand Lake Ok is a great place to be with children during the summer months. One thing to consider is keeping them safe in the sun during this time of year. Here are some tips for keeping them “sun safe.”

Remember to apply and re-apply sunscreen often. It is best to apply it before going outdoors. The best time to apply it before going out is at least 15 minutes ahead of time. Thirty minutes ahead of time is even better.

Have the child wear clothing that covers their skin while keeping them comfortable. Short sleeve shirts are better than no sleeve shirts. Keeping them covered will allow less skin to be exposed from the sun. And, don’t forget the hats and sunglasses.

Choose the best time of day to be outdoors during the warmer days. Earlier in the morning is better as well as later in the evening. Avoid being in the sun during the hours of 10 am to 4 pm if possible. If you have to be out during these times, try to be in the shade which will help some.

Take precautions while visiting the lake areas. The sun adds a powerful reflection and can cause more damage to the skin. Be sure to apply sunscreen while boating on the lake and before swimming. Reapply after swimming or perspiring.

Best of all, have some great family fun during the summer time while be “sun safe.” Grand Lake Ok is a great place to be during the warmer months of the year!!
