Plan for the Heat – Plan for the heat, even if the weatherman is saying to temps will be cooler than usual. Weather can change, and it is always best to be prepared for a hot day. Also, plan out your day based on the cooler times of the day when possible. Plan early morning excursions or late evening fun when possible. This will help you to be active during your stay at the lake, yet smart in the times to stay cooler.

Use Sunscreen – Apply sunscreen before heading out on your excursion. Also, carry sunscreen with you to reapply as needed. If you are swimmer, then reapply sunscreen more often. If you are sweating, then also consider reapplying more sunscreen to help beat the heat.

Proper Summer Clothing – Wear suitable summer clothing during your visit to the lake or outdoor areas. Wear lighter clothing to reflect the sun's rays. Bring a hat for a headcover. Use appropriate shoes and dress in loose clothing to stay cool.

Rest Locations – During the summertime, when the heat is rising, take time to know where your rest locations will be. Seek out shady areas if fishing from the bank or taking a day hike through the state park in your area.

Awareness – Let others know where you are going and when you plan to be back to camp. This will allow others who are visiting with you to have a timeline to review. If you are not back within the specified amount of time, then help can be sent to check on you.

Use a Buddy System – When hiking, or fishing, use a buddy system. Each “buddy” can keep an eye on each other. People react differently to the hot temps, and one may be able to send for help if needed.

Stay Mobile – Carry your mobile cell phone with you. Some areas may not have reception, but it is always best to carry a phone with you, just in case. Even if you “buddy” has to walk to an area of reception, it will allow help to be sent much quicker in many situations.
