Cooking and cooks will be the explored in a fun celebration of Shrove Tuesday on Tues, February 13, 3:00 p.m. at The Playmakers, 121 W 3rd St. in Grove.
Often labeled "Fat Tuesday," this Tuesday is the day before Lent when one eats all the foods one is giving up for Lent. The Playmakers will present a short comedic play about food in Readers' Theatre format and the artistic treatment of women as cooks and the aesthetics of food in historical fine art paintings will be on display.
Selected recipes will be available from the light-hearted mysteries of Diane Mott Davidson, whose protagonist is a caterer. An introduction to these mysteries will be made by a staff member of the Grove Public Library. Since it is described, also, as "pancake day" in Europe, mini-dessert pancakes with various toppings (purchased) will complete the program.
