The Grove Playmakers Open "ANN" on Saturday, June 7

"ANN" by Holland Taylor is an intimate, no-holds barred portrait of Ann Richards, the legendary late Governor of Texas. No matter your political persuasion you will find "ANN" blisteringly funny as one reviewer said. The New York Times called it "fiery, salty and brash!" The production crew agrees. It is a one-woman show, featuring Ashley Davidson, Playmakers' actor, director and youth theatre director.
It runs for only seven performances, from June 7 through 21, 2024, on Thursdays & Friday evenings at 7:30 pm and Sunday matinees at 2:00 pm.
The play lets us in on one day in the life of the wife, mother and feminist who became only the second, and so far the last, female governor of Texas. It begins with a university, commencement speech which can take an audience into not only a busy day in her life as governor, but also into the intimacy of the years of her reinvention as a political woman.
Ashley Davidson, who plays solo on this production, began her acting days as Amarylis in The Playmakers' first play, the musical "The Music Man" in 1995. The list of 32 plays as actor and or director is much too long to cite here. She continued her participation by designing and building sets, working tech and backstage crew, and many of the other tasks that theatre demands. She was recently seen in "You Make My Frame Shake," (April, 2023) and directed and acted in "The Thin Place" ( Nov, 2023). She is currently is the "in-house techie" as well as teaching both the dance and theatre classes for students.
Major credit cards are accepted for seating: $15 for adults and $8 for students, upper elementary through high school only. This guide is based on the capability of the student to understand the content of the production and its appropriateness for that age level. This is a guideline only, not a rule. Young children, under 5 years of age are admitted to special productions for them only.
