The story of Willard Stone is a unique one. His father passed away while Willard was an infant and his mother worked the cotton fields. At a young age Willard was injured, but he still held a keen interest in drawing. On his way home from school, he would pick up blocks of red clay and mold them into animals and other items of nature.
While entering the fair, Stone's items drew interest from the crowds. He attended college and his talent was seen in this time of his life. A studio was created for this young man where he had to space to create from his own talents. Through his college, national recognitions were given.
Willard worked different jobs after finishing his college education. One particular job would open the door to a new world. Thomas Gilcrease took Stone in and there he begin to be more recognized. People were amazed at the work he provided and now he provides a view of his current sculptures at the Willard Stone Family Museum & Gallery.
