One millions vets, including a Grand Lake OK veteran, marched through the District of Columbia this past week. The veterans gathered at the World War II national monument to protest against the recent government shut down of the war memorials.
Although Mark Kelly did not think he would be involved in such an event in his lifetime, he is definitely glad he took his stand and marched with many others standing for freedom in our country. The march was organized by a group called "Brats for Veterans Advocacy." The group promotes peaceful ways to honor American veterans.
During the march and the breaking of the monument barricade, onlookers cheered on while some began singing Amazing Grace. Other groups began saying America's Pledge of Allegiance. Many veterans who attended the march had served tours in Iraq, Afghanistan, as well as Desert Storm among other conflicts.
The event stirred many emotions in the Grand Lake Oklahoma community as well as across the nation. Many residents stand behind Kelly as well as veterans across the country that has paid the price for our freedoms!
